दोन वर्षांपूर्वी एक budget gaming keyboard होता. RGB होतं, looks impressive होतं.

एका वर्षानंतर “A”, “S”, “D”, “W” keys वरची letters जवळजवळ invisible झाली होती. WASD keys most used होत्या obviously. इतर keys ठीक होत्या, या चार keys blank दिसत होत्या.

Touch typing येत असेल तर problem नाही — keyboard बघत नाही. पण shortcuts, symbols — occasional reference लागतो. Faded letters frustrating होते.

Legend म्हणजे काय — आणि का Matter करतो

Keycap वर printed अक्षरे, numbers, symbols — हे legends आहेत. “A”, “Enter”, “Shift”, “Ctrl”, “F5” — सगळे legends.

Legends दिसणं stop झालं म्हणजे keycap unusable नाही होत — functional आहे. पण visually unpleasant आहे. New keyboard जुना दिसतो. Reference साठी बघायला गेलं तर blank keycap.

Legends कसे बनवतात हे directly durability decide करतो. तीन main methods आहेत — प्रत्येक dramatically different durability देतो.

Method एक — Laser Etching

Budget keyboards मध्ये सगळ्यात common आहे

Laser ने keycap surface वर burn/etch करतात. Plastic surface मध्ये slight indentation येतो — letter shape. Color contrast येतो.

RGB keyboards मध्ये variant आहे — keycap वर opaque coating, laser ने letter area remove करतो. Light त्या exposed area मधून आत जातो — RGB शाइन-थ्रू होतो.

Problem:

Etch shallow आहे. Surface level modification. Friction over time — finger oils, daily use — etch gradually smooth होतो. Color contrast कमी होतो. Legends fade होतात.

Method दोन — Dye-Sublimation

PBT keycaps साठी premium method

Heat transfer printing. Dye paper वर legend print होतो. Paper keycap वर place करतात. High heat apply करतात — dye turns into gas state, PBT plastic मध्ये infuse होतो. Dye plastic चाच part बनतो — surface coating नाही.

Why durable:

Legend surface वर नाही — plastic च्या आत आहे. Friction ने surface material remove झालं तरी legend visible राहतो — dye deeper आहे. Fade होणं practically impossible normal use मध्ये.

Limitation — Light on Dark:

Dye sublimation physics — darker dye lighter background मध्येच infuse होते properly. म्हणजे dark legends on light keycaps — possible. Light legends on dark keycaps — not achievable with dye-sub.

White legends on black keycaps — dye-sub मध्ये नाही होत. या combination साठी doubleshot लागतो.

Sound:

Method तीन — Doubleshot

Premium option — Legend literally physically separate piece आहे

दोन injection molds, दोन plastic pieces. पहिला shot — legend piece plastic inject होतो. दुसरा shot — outer keycap body त्याच्या around inject होतो. दोन्ही fuse होतात — एक solid piece.

म्हणजे legend plastic body चाच एक part आहे — surface coating, ink, etching — काहीच नाही. Physical separate piece embedded आहे.

Why virtually indestructible:

Legend fade होण्यासाठी — surface material इतकं wear व्हावं लागेल की inner legend piece reach होईल. Practically impossible normal use मध्ये. Legends जवळजवळ कधीच fade होत नाहीत.

RGB compatibility:

Doubleshot shine-through keycaps — legend piece transparent material मध्ये होतो, body opaque असतो. RGB light transparent legend मधून clearly दिसतो. Excellent RGB compatibility.
